Boccia & New Age Kurling
On 1st December we attended the two disability sports of Boccia and New Age Kurling. Both of these sports requires a sharp combination of mental acuity and skill. The idea of both games is to get as near a centre point as possible, with Boccia using balls and New Age Kurling using ‘stones’ with wheels.
In the morning the boccia took place and unfortunately we were knocked out of the competition, even though we only lost 1 out of 7. The team performed well and put their training into good use.
In the afternoon we played New Age Kurling and, although we don’t have a set the team took to it brilliantly. The tactics that were played were excellent and with Bella taking out an opposing stone with her last go it meant that we had reached the Super 8s. In the Sper 8s the team got better and better and with Carlo, Charlie and Lili-Mae all playing well and Bella playing some excellent last stones we won 2 and lost 1, which was good enough for a semi-final place. Unfortunately nerves kicked in and a slow start saw us 4 down and although we battled well we could not make up the defecit.
This meant a 3rd place play off with Greenways and with the team wanting a medal they all put in a tremendous performance to win 3-2.
Well done to all four players and especially to Charlie and Carlo who had never represented the school before but trained well to earn their place in the team.
