Boys Year 5/6 Emerging Football Tournament

On Friday 11th November, eight pupils headed off to the Len Forge Centre to take part in the emerging Year 5/6 boy’s football tournament. After a break of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was great to see Friars once again joining in with this great event.

Over the course of the day, the squad consisting of Alfie, Billy, Braiden, Charlie, Harry, Jeffrey, Joe and Riley took part in ten 10-minute games against other schools from across Southend. The day was jam-packed. Whilst in the morning, there was a break between each of the four games, in the afternoon the boys had to play six games back-to-back. One hour of constant football! This kept the boys on their toes… and Mr. McClay who was manager for the day!

We are pleased to report that Team Friars finished with four wins, three draws and just three defeats. It was tight at the top and Friars finished a highly creditable joint fifth. On a different day we could have easily finished even higher but for late goals in a couple of the games. The teams above us all made the finals the following week. So close…

All of the boys performed brilliantly and showed not only excellent footballing skills but also those school values we always aim to demonstrate. Thank you to all of the boys and the parents and other families members who managed to come along to support.
