Celebration Assembly – 21st July 2022

Wow….What a brilliant way to end our year

Today’s assembly was a long one but it was great to hear all of the different competition winners and certificate recipients from across this term.

Each teacher started the assembly with the very hard job of choosing just two children from their class to receive our end of term certificates. When you are faced with thirty worthy recipients in each class it makes it an almost impossible decision but finally we had our winners. Well done to all of the certificate winners below for an excellent term and in some cases, an excellent year of hard work, progress and brilliant attitude.

Pen Licence

Huge Congratulations to Jazmin, who left it until the last day, but leaves Friars with her pen licence. Well done Jazmin – all of your hard work has paid off!

Sunflower competition

There were some great entries in Mrs Snow’s science challenge which was to grow a sunflower from seed.

Well done to all of our challengers for taking part, but it was Marcie in Year 2 who topped the lot – with her winning entry over 3 metres tall. Marcie was also awarded with a super plants sticker book as part of her prize.

Well done Marcie for a fantastic, fabulous, flowering finale to our competition.

50th Mural Design Winner

We had lots of entries to our 50th year mural design competition and all of the children were awarded certificates for entering. Our top ten went forward to the public vote and after almost 500 votes being cast, it was Isabelle in Year 5, whose brilliant design came out on top.

Well done to all of our entrants, but especially our top ten and Isabelle our eventual winner. Isabelle’s design will now be painted onto the blank wall near the KS2 gate.

Out of school achievements

A big well done to Isabella in Year 6 who was voted ‘Stunter of the Year’ at her Southend Elite Cheerleading awards on Saturday evening . It is brilliant to see how Issy has blossomed during her time here and has now taken to the stage in front of hundreds of people to collect her award.

We are very proud of you Issy and look forward to hearing about your future achievements. .

Attendance

For this end of year assembly we celebrated the classes that had the best attendance over the entire year.

Congratulations to 2B and 5BW for both recording 95% attendance this year to win the Attendance Cup over the Summer Holidays. Harriet and James collected the awards on behalf of their classes.

We also celebrated an amazing attendance achievement as Betsie, who is leaving us from Year 6 today, achieved 100% attendance throughout her whole time at Friars, this spans 2015-2022. Well done Betsie and also well done to her mum, for getting her to school every single day!

Team Points

So after totalling up all of the points over the year – we were very proud to award our brand new Friars Cup to Caernarfon, our yellow team. The Year 6 children from Caernarfon lifted the trophy in style at the end of our assembly.

The final standings are below;

Goodbyes

It was also a time to say thank you and goodbye to two of our staff that are leaving us today. Thank you to Miss Sylvester, who is leaving to go to university and Mrs Monk, who after 10 years with us, is moving on to pastures new. Mrs Monk told the children how much she will miss them, but we will also miss all of the work that she has done at Friars, leading the library, the cheerleading team and the Royal Opera House Visit.

Thank you and good Luck for the future to you both.

The final goodbye went to our Year 6 children who were clapped out of the hall as they left our assembly for the final time.

Good luck in your new schools Year 6, we will miss each and every one of you but come back and visit us in the future.

Congratulations to all of our winners this year and in September….we will do it all again!

Have a great summer!
