Celebration Assembly 24th March 2023

This week we’ve had assessments tests, reptile and animal visitors, football matches and parents evenings where we could share lots of great learning….never a dull week at Friars and as usual, lots to celebrate!

KS1 certificates

Our KS1 certificates were awarded to these Year 1 and 2 children for such amazing reasons as super maths work with tens and ones, for making a snail house during outdoor learning, for working hard on independent tasks, for improving handwriting, for overall effort and perseverance, for super concentration, for exceptional comprehension skills and for great team work in PE.

Buddy Awards

We love Buddy Awards at Friars as they are not only nominated by adults around the school but also by children as well. They also highlight those children who demonstrate attributes such as kindness, helpfulness and being a good role model to others. This week Daisy, Taylor, Esme, Charlie and Harry were nominated for helping their friends, being friendly and kind and for reading to a friend.

Thank you for setting such a good example!

KS2 certificates

In KS2 this week there have been more spring term assessments happening but also so much more!

In Years 3 and 4 individual children and even whole classes were recognised by their teachers for reasons such as perseverance, improved concentration, being a complete joy in class, showing sensible learning behaviours, for amazing use of language and structure in writing and for skill and perseverance during a tricky DT project.

In Years 5 and 6 certificates were awarded to those children showing progress in maths tests, super effort, determination and resilience, sensible and mature behaviour, amazing writing with amazing detail. There were also several whole class awards for resilience, concentration and progress across the board.

Computing Class of the Week

Its always a difficult job for Mrs Pinckney to select a class of the week, as Friars children certainly love their computing lessons but this week it was Class 4S who wowed her with their spreadsheet work that included having to open spreadsheets and sort columns.

The award was collected by Millie on behalf of her class.

Special Assembly Shout Outs

There were special assembly shout outs to Rocky in Year 5 for doubling some of his test scores this week and to Ella and Bay in Year 3 for helping take the lunch box trolleys back to classes.

Pen Licences

We haven’t had too many pen licences given out recently so it was great to award two this week for consistently well formed, well-spaced, well sized joined handwriting. Well done to Bessie in 4D and Rosie in 4S for this achievement.

More good news!

As you will know from our previous celebration reports, we also like to hear about successes outside of school. Well done to Alicia in Year 5 who attended a cheerleading competition in Crawley over the weekend with her group ‘Southend Elite’.

Alicia’s group did so well that they managed to earn ‘zero’ badges for not gaining any penalty points in what was a faultless performance. Well done to Alicia and her group for this great achievement.

Attendance

Class 2S almost hit perfection over the last week as they recorded 99.7% attendance. In KS2, 3JA won the Attendance Cup with 96.4%.

Our whole school attendance figure improved to 94% this week. We hope this is a sign of better health to come in the summer term.

Team Cups

Stirling and Windsor have dominated the Team Cups for the last few weeks but this week Stormont won in KS1 and Caernarfon took the cup in KS2.

Stirling stay in front on our leader board, with Stormont second and Caernarfon and Windsor now tied for third place. It’s going to get exciting as the summer term nears.

Well done to all of our winners this week!

A funny finale!

At the end of our assembly, some of our cheekier children asked if they could have a funny photo taken as an alternative to the most serious ones shown above… here are the results!
